The Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, is one of Lagos’ most iconic sporting venues. Located on Lagos Island, this stadium has a rich history, originally opened in 1930 as a football field. It has since undergone several renovations, the most recent being in 2019, when it was named after the late Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, the first Military Governor of Lagos State.
The stadium is a multi-purpose venue, hosting not just football matches but also various large-scale community and sporting events. It has a seating capacity of about 5,000 and serves as the home ground for Nigeria’s national teams and local clubs.
